چکیده

Thromb Haemost 2006; 95: 900–1 Hyperhomocysteinaemia is a risk factor for thrombosis and recurrent pregnancy loss (1–2). Similar mechanisms appear to mediate thrombosis and pregnancy loss associated with hyperhomocysteinaemia and with antiphospholipid antibodies (3). We report the case of a female patient with an unusual association of hyperhomocysteinemia, normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism, growth hormone deficiency and antiphospholipid syndrome.

Normocalcemic versus Hypercalcemic Primary Hyperparathyroidism: More Stone than Bone?

Introduction. Normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NPHPT) is considered a variant of the more frequent form of the disease characterized by normal serum calcium levels with high PTH. The higher prevalence of renal stones in patients with HPTP and the well established association with bone disorders show the importance of studies on how to manage asymptomatic patients. Objective. To compar...

Clinical Expression of Calcium Sensing Receptor Polymorphism (A986S) in Normocalcemic and Asymptomatic Hyperparathyroidism.

Normocalcemic and asymptomatic hyperparathyroidism diagnosis are becoming more common. However, their pathophysiology is incompletely known. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical effect of calcium-sensing receptor polymorphism (A986S) in normocalcemic and asymtomatic HPT. Prospective study conducted with 61 consecutive normocalcemic and asymptomatic HPT patients was followed...

Severe atherosclerotic changes, including aortic occlusion, associated with hyperhomocysteinaemia and antiphospholipid antibodies.

Three patients are described with severe systemic atherosclerosis, including aortic occlusion, in the presence of a spectrum of risk factors, including hypercholesterolaemia, hypertension, a positive family history of cardiovascular problems, and hyperhomocysteinaemia. In all three patients high levels of anticardiolipin antibodies were found. The possible pathogenic role of antiphospholipid an...

Normocalcemic Primary Hyperparathyroidism

Normocalcemic Primary Hyperparathyroidism (NC-PHPT) is a clinical entity characterized by normal serum calcium and persistently elevated parathyroid (PTH) levels. These patients have no obvious causes for secondary hyperparathyroidism such as vitamin D deficiency and renal insufficiency [1,2-16,17]. None of the patients had clear evidence of gastrointestinal disease. Although the entity NC-PHPT...

Normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism: a newly emerging disease needing therapeutic intervention.

Normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NCHPT) is a new entity which possibly represents a “fruste form” of classic clinically symptomatic hyperparathyroidism. Over the last decade it has generated considerable scientific interest. However, its worldwide official recognition was announced recently as in 2008 when an international workshop on primary hyperparathyroidism took place in order to...
